The Role
As our Market Surveillance Specialist, you will be the primary owner of day-to-day market surveillance across our energy activities. You’ll work closely with Trading to ensure our surveillance approach remains effective, well-documented, and value-adding, while maintaining independence.
This is a high-trust role with real influence. We have monitoring in place today, and you will help operate it, strengthen it, and evolve it as our trading activity and regulatory expectations develop.
What You’ll Own
Run the daily surveillance process end-to-end: Monitor and investigate alerts, document outcomes, engage and find mitigating solutions with the business for context, and escalate concerns when needed.
Drive continuous improvement: Improve workflows, documentation standards, and operating procedures as trading activity, products, and expectations evolve.
Keep coverage effective and up to date: Maintain the scenario catalogue/coverage map across our business; tune and test scenarios to balance quality coverage with manageable alert volumes.
Ensure the inputs are reliable: Define key data requirements, perform sanity checks/reconciliations, and drive fixes with Tech when data issues impact surveillance.
Get involved in the design of algorithms and logic to secure strategies are compliant by design. Approve and challenge changes to current logic and document risk assessment of decisions.
Own governance and reporting: Produce and maintain governance and proactively engage with external stakeholders (regulatory, exchanges etc.) to manage information requests – supported by clear evidence and a robust, well-documented methodology.
About You
2–5 years of relevant experience in energy markets – with trade surveillance, compliance monitoring, or trading/execution with a clear motivation to move into a monitoring role. It is a plus, if your experience is from exchanges or ACER.
Understanding of market microstructure and order lifecycle (orders, cancels/amends, auctions, closing mechanisms).
Confident writer: You can document investigations and decisions in a clear, structured way.
Comfortable working cross-functionally with Trading, Quant and Tech, and able to challenge when needed.
High integrity and good judgement, able to handle sensitive topics with discretion.
Fluency in English.
Nice to Have
Familiarity with MAR and/or REMIT, including common market abuse typologies.
Experience with trade surveillance platforms and alert-based workflows.
Strong Excel skills; Python/SQL/data analysis experience is a plus (reconciliations, validation, ad-hoc analysis).
Experience improving controls, documentation, or operating models in regulated environments.
